Tamiya: Astute TD2 buggy kit

Tamiya is going to release another off-road masterpiece designed by our friend Kota Nezu of Znug Design (who penned that of the recently released Super Avante). It’s the 2022 edition of the Astute built upon the brand new TD2 chassis. The original kit was released back in 1991 and for this edition the basic construction and design of the model has been revolutionized.

Tamiya- Super Avante TD4 with Pre-Painted Body box

If you are like me and don’t have time and patience to paint, Tamiya revealed a Pre-Painted version of their Super Avante Buggy kit (with a few special-colored parts)! This assembly kit features an exceptionally low-profile design enabled in part by its front inboard suspension, with a shaft-driven 4WD drivetrain powered by a midship motor and employing front/rear ball differentials plus full ball bearings.

Its futuristic body design is the work of my friend Kota Nezu at Znug Design,and features numerous clear sections that just add to the Super Avante’s distinctly modern mood.

Tamiya: Ford Zakspeed Turbo Capri Würth / Re-Release

Tamiya announced the re-release of their Ford Zakspeed Turbo Capri Würth RC car on TT02 chassis.  In the late 1970s, Zakspeed was the official Ford team in the German Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft (DRM) series, a predecessor of the current DTM. The company constructed and entered an FIA Group 2 Escort and the Group 5 Capri, based on the MKIII production model.

Tamiya: TamTech-Gear Grasshopper

Tamiya announced the latest model of their TamTech-Gear: the Grasshopper Buggy.  The first model of this series was the Frog and we are happy to see that also the legendary grasshopper got the TamTech treatment. The Ready-to-Run TamTech-Gear models come factory-assembled and  are packaged together with an RC system with a 7.2V battery & charger (a fully-charged battery pack provides up to 30 minutes of on-road/off-road enjoyment).

Tamiya- Toyota GR 86 - TT02 Chassis

After teasing us in the last few weeks Tamiya has finally revealed full details on their Toyota GR 86 1/10 scale kit.  The original GR 86 is a lightweight front- engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car which was announced in April 2021. It has a broad stance, low center of gravity, and employs aerodynamic components rooted in motorsports. The aluminum engine hood, roof and front fenders are lightweight and the suspension features front strut and rear double wishbone systems. This car is powered by a 2.4-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder DOHC engine capable of 235hp.
