Radio controlled Claas Jaguar 980: 1/5 scale scratch build replica!

Martin Limpens, a 40 years old maker from the Netherlands, has built an amazing 1/5 scale replica of a Jaguar 980: a self-propelled forage harvester that is built by German farm machinery company Claas.

This radio control model is scratch build and  required over 3000 hours of work. It weighs in at 70 Kg and can move thanks to a 4.5hp  Briggs & Stratton engine.

Here are some info about the realscale agricultural machine that inspired Martin to make this incredible radio-controlled model in scale.

The first Jaguar was built in 1973, with the 10,000th machine being built in 1994, the 15,000th in 1998 and the 20,000th built in 2004. The 30,000th Jaguar was built in 2011 and was displayed at the Agritechnica farm show in Germany with a special black livery.

Martin Limpens has been trained as a turning/milling specialist and works in the steel industry. He set up a complete workshop at home in the garage with among other things a lathe, welding equipment and a milling machine. To build his own 1/5 scale replica he used a 1:32 scale model of the Claas Jaguar 980 as reference (but did not buy any new parts to build his model: everything used was home-crafted or recycled).

He’s old school compared to other makers: “You could 3D print parts quickly and easily, but I have never done that”.
