Mini 4WD 99 Cup in Abruzzo: Event Report

Exactly one year later Mini 4WD Sport comes back to the Italian region of Abruzzo, for the second edition of the “99 Cup tournament” held in L’Aquila city as part of the Fantasy Fest “Sulle Tracce del Drago”.
The two days tournament took place in conjunction with the 2 years anniversary since the start of the “Mini 4WD Sport” project, an excellent opportunity to celebrate this game, which has become a reference point in Italy for those who want to approach this “modeling sport”.

It has been a way to return to normality for the participants of the event, arrived from
different parts of Italy to have the opportunity to meet and challenge each other after the
lock down period due to the Covid-19 emergency.

FIRST DAY
Under the shadows of the Gran Sasso mountain, the teams competed on 3 tracks inside the park around the medieval Spanish Castle. Characterized by uneven asphalt and concrete. The first three were animated by continuous overtaking and changes of strategy.
Fourth race, endurance: it included a lap around the Spanish fort, carried out on a sloping path enclosed only by a wooden fence. Some racers have lost their way, others overestimated their athletic performance, still others, despite starting from the last places on the starting grid, managed to recover,
managing to earn valuable points for their team!

SECOND DAY
The second day of competitions took place in the park of the city hall, on tiled and off-road
tracks. The challengers for the victory were the Abruzzo, Piedmont and Lazio teams. At the end of the first three races, including a “rally cross”, the contenders for the first place were the Dora Bulls from Turin and the Rising Voltage of Rome. The last no holds barred race crowns the Capitoline team with just four points of advantage (78pt vs 74).

Final standings:

1° Rising Voltage
2° Dora Bulls
3° Big Stone
4° Team Marche
