Our friend Sariel (the legendary LEGO Technic designer who authored several books) created a wonderful Radio Controlled replica of a large JCB backhoe loader. This MOC features 4×4 drive with 3 steering modes, 6 remotely operated pneumatic circuits, cabin with interior, external pneumatic remote, lights and custom stickers.
The model was very challenging to build, with a multitude of functions in a very limited space. Below you can watch the video of this LEGO masterpiece. Sadly, this is a MOC and it’s not on-sale.
Main features of Sariel’s RC JCB 5CX Wastemaster:
- Completion date: 02/12/2018
- Power: electric/pneumatic (Power Functions)
- Remote control: SBrick
- Dimensions: length 75 studs / width 24 studs / height 31 studs
- Weight: 2,365 kg

- Motors: 2 x PF Servo, 1 x PF L, 4 x PF M, 2 x Micromotor
This LEGO JCB 5CX Wastemaster Backhoe Loader replica requires one year of work, with some controversial design choices. Sariel had two sources of inspiration this LEGO “mechanical masterpiece”: one were Jennifer Clark’s amazing models, including this excavator controlled using an external pneumatic remote. The other source was the LEGO 42054 Claas Xerion set, featuring tires that looked almost exactly like the tires on the real JCB 5CX (except for being slightly wider).
Not a LEGO set. Not for sale. Not eligible for LEGO Ideas. No instructions, but you can read the description posted by Sariel on his website and check work in progress photos.
